  • Haryana won the 11th national sub-junior women’s hockey championship by defeating hosts Jharkhand.
  • The final was played at the Simdega Astroturf Hockey Stadium.
  • Uttar Pradesh finished third playing against Odisha.

 

Mumbai Wins Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21


  • Mumbai beat Uttar Pradesh to win their 4th Vijay Hazare Trophy played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
  • Aditya Tare (Mumbai) was given Player of the Match award.

 

Ravichandran Ashwin: ICC Player Of The Month


  • Ravichandran Ashwin has been named the ICC men's Player for the Month of February for his stellar show against England in a four-match Test series at home which India won to qualify for the World Test Championship final.
  • Ashwin who played in three tests in the four match series scored a 106 in the second innings of India's second Test victory over England at Chennai and took his 400th Test wicket in the third Test victory at Ahmedabad.

 

National Sqay Championship


  • Ladakh Sqay Team won eight medals in the 21st National Sqay Championship held at Jaipur in Rajasthan.
  • It was also presented an Outstanding Performance Award by the Sqay Federation of India.
  • Sqay is a Kashmiri martial arts form of sword-fighting. It is governed by the Sqay Federation of India. Armed sqay makes use of a curved single-edge sword paired with a shield, or one sword in each hand. Unarmed techniques incorporate kicks, punches, locks and chops.

 

ITBP Wins IHAI National Ice Hockey Championship


  • The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has won the Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) 10th National Ice Hockey Championship trophy after beating Ladakh in the finals.
  • The match was held at Gulmarg Ice Rink, Gulmarg Development Authority, Jammu and Kashmir (UT).
  • ITBP Ice Hockey team had won numerous tournaments in the region defeating all teams and became the National Ice Hockey Champions in 2019 as well.
  • Ladakh has been considered as the capital of Ice Hockey in India where local men and women play this game with great enthusiasm and the game is developing very fast in the region among local youth as well.
  • The Khelo India Ice Hockey Championship will also be organised at Ladakh.

 

Paris 2024 Olympics: Gender Equality And Youth At The Heart


The Olympic Games Paris 2024, are centred on gender equality and youth.

  • While Olympic Games Tokyo will be the first gender equal Olympic Games, with an overall 48.8 per cent female participation, it will be further increased at Paris 2024, reaching the exact same number of male and female athletes for the first time in Olympic history.
  • This new flexibility is part of the reforms of Olympic Agenda 2020 which features the games' historic 100 percent gender equality in athlete quotas, more youth-focused events and reductions in athletes and events.

Main Features of Paris 2024’s Olympic Programme Include:

  • Exactly 50 per cent male and female participation, following on from the gender equality already achieved for Tokyo 2020, which will have 48.8 per cent female participation.
  • Growth of mixed gender events, from 18 to 22, compared to Tokyo 2020.
  • Skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and breaking confirmed as additional sports based on a proposal by Paris 2024.
  • Breaking will make its Olympic debut.

Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta And Mallakhambato Be Part Of KIYG 2021


  • The Sports Ministry has approved the inclusion of four Indigenous Games to be a part of Khelo India Youth Games 2021, scheduled to take place in Haryana.
  • The games include: Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta and Mallakhamba.
  • Earlier, Yogasanawas also given a competitive sports status which will also be a part of Khelo India Games 2021.

The four selected games represent different parts of the country:

  • Kalaripayattu: It has its origin from Kerala and has practitioners all over the world; Bollywood actor VidyutJammwal being one.
  • Mallakhamba: It well-known across India and Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have been the hotspots of this sport.
  • Gatka:Originates from the State of Punjab and this traditional fighting style of the Nihang Sikh Warriors is used both as self-defense as well as a sport.
  • Thang-Ta:It is a marital art form of Manipur.

 

Cologne Boxing World Cup: India Wins Nine Medals


  • Indian boxers finished the Cologne World Cup in Germany with nine medals: three gold, two silver and four bronze medals.
  • Gold:AmitPanghal (men's 52kg), SimranjitKaur (women's 60kg) and ManishaMoun (women's 57kg).

JehanDaruvala: First Indian To Win F2 Sprint Race


JehanDaruvala created history as he became the first Indian to win an F2 race when he finished ahead of the likes of Mick Schumacher and Dan Ticktum in a sprint race in Sakhir, Bahrain.

  • Models: In Formula 1 race, a variety of different models take to the track. But in F2, cars are completely identical.
  • Skill & Machine:In F1, while driver’s skill is instrumental in finishing the race on top, the build of the car also plays a role. In F2, talent shines over the cars specifications.
  • Engine: Both the Williams F1 car of Formula 2 racing and the variety of F1 cars are fitted with a V8 engine, but Formula 2 vehicles sport an rpm of 10,000 while F1 cars hit up to 18,000 rpm. F2 cars are backed by a 500 horsepower engine, which is about half that of a Formula 1 vehicle.
  • Speed:Max speeds are relatively similar, with F2 topping out about 30 kmh less than F1.

 

Lewis Hamilton Surpasses Schumacher


  • Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) has won the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix, held at Algarve International Circuit, Portugal.
  • This is Hamilton’s 8th win of the season and 92nd career race victory.
  • With this win, he has surpassed the record of 91 wins set by German great Michael Schumacher.

The French Open is a Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.

Women’s Singles

  • Poland's IgaSwiatek defeated American Sofia Kenin to win the 2020 French Open for her first Grand Slam singles title.
  • The 19-year-old Swiatek, at 54 the lowest-ranked woman to capture the Roland Garros title in the modern era, beat her sixth-ranked opponent to win her country’s first Grand Slam singles title.
  • Swiatek is the youngest women’s French Open winner since Monica Seles lifted the trophy as an 18-year-old in 1992. She is the first teenage champion since Iva Majoli in 1997.
  • Swiatek became just the second unseeded women’s Roland Garros champion in the Open era, joining Jelena Ostapenko who claimed the title three years ago.

Men’s Singles

  • Rafael Nadal (Spain) beat Novak Djokovic (Serbia) to win his 20th Grand Slam title, equalling Roger Federer, and his 13th French Open title.
  • Rafael Nadal has won the most French Open titles, with thirteen (which is also a record for any player, male or female, in any one of the four major tournaments) and also holds the record for the most consecutive wins in the Open Era, with five from 2010 to 2014.
