1 India air defence gets a boost, Russia starts delivery of S400 missiles.  It is most advanced air defence system and has a range of 400 kilometres.

 

2 Army is about to get M777 Ultralight howitzers (gun) that can be swiftly deployed and redeployed in mountains, amid the ongoing border row with China.  


3 Indian Navy commissions the indigenously designed and built stealth destroyer INS visakhapatnam.  It is 35,000 crore project 15B.  It is one of the most technologically advanced guided missile destroyer in the world.  It was built by state owned manga dock shipbuilders limited Mumbai.  It is propelled by 4 powerful gas turbines and can reach speeds in excess of 30 knots.

 

4  Ins vikrant India’s largest warship begins sea trials.  It is India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier the largest ever warship to be constructed in an India.  It can accommodate meet 29 supersonic fighter jets,  MH 60R multirole helicopters and Indian built advanced light helicopters.  India already has the aircraft carrier ins vikramaditya, purchased from Russia in 2013 for just over 2 billion dollars which is currently operational.  The name vikranth means courageous.  The motto of the ship is ‘Jayema Sam Yudhi spradhah.’  It is taken from rigveda and can be translated as I defeat those who fight against me.

 

5  Indian Navy conducts security exercise prasthan in western offshore development area off the coast of Mumbai.  The exercise was conducted on the Mumbai high north platform of oil and natural gas corporation located about 94 nautical miles West of Mumbai.

 

 6 naval exercise Zayed Talwar 2021,  Held between India and UAE. 

7 AL MOHED AL Hindi 2021—  First ever naval exercise between India and Saudi Arabia.

 

8  Defence research and development organization  successfully test fired the indigenous technology cruise missile early in August 2021 with the new made in India turbofan engine manik from the integrated test range in Odisha.

 

9  Indian Navy and royal Bahrain Navy undertake maritime exercise at Manama Bahrain

 

10  India Australia sign joint guidance for enable cooperation.  Australian Navy is also part of the malabar naval exercises which includes Japan and us.

 


11  Defence officials from India Sri Lanka and the Maldives participated in a virtual trilateral tabletop exercise 2021 on maritime security.  It was organised by maritime warfare center Mumbai during July 14 and 15 2021.

 

12 SAGAR policy

 India is holding discussions with countries in the Indian Ocean region as per its neighbourhood first and  security and growth for all in the region (SAGAR) policy.

 

 13 in January 2022, India successfully test fired and advanced see to see variant of brahmos.  Supersonic cruise missile from ins visakhapatnam warship off the West Coast.  Bramos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost 3 times the speed of sound.

 

14  On January 11th 2022,  the defence research and development organization successfully flight tested and final deliverable configuration of the man portable anti tank guided missile at a range in southern India.  It is indigenously developed anti tank missile low weight 15 kg fire and forget missile and is launched from man portable launcher integrated with thermal sight.

 


15  The Philippines becomes the first country to buy the brahmos supersonic cruise missile system boosting India’s efforts to become a major exporter of defense hardware.

 

16  7 new defense companies created out of ordinance factory board dedicated to the nation.  This will enhance functional autonomy, efficiency and unleash new growth potential and innovation government had decided to convert ordinance factory board from a government department in to 7, 100% government owned corporate entities as a measure to improve self reliance in the defence preparedness of the country.
